SoupScription

Dear friends and customers,

I am honored to have your continuous support and encouragement. You inspired me to grow and expand and provided constant encouragement via your wonderful smiles and excited “Wows” when you tried my food. I couldn’t do it without you! Thank you!

Our summer market was a complete success: when I first started coming to the market in mid-July, I was bringing in about 30 loaves. At the peak of the season, just one short month later, I was baking 120 loaves in one day (and selling out every time!)! Now that the summer is over, the trees are standing bare, and the late fall is upon us it is time to plan for the long months of winter.

But before we get to that I am allowing myself a little birthday vacation. This weekend my family and I are going up to Maine, to visit with friends, to have some wonderful fresh seafood and to get to know local Maine cuisine that will provide further inspiration to my cooking. If any of you have a favorite place to eat in or around Portland, do let me know, I’ll greatly appreciate it.

I am coming back next week and will immediately start planning the menu for the SoupScription, which will be back on Monday, November 16. I’m tentatively thinking that I will bring back my gingered butternut squash-apple soup that so many of you asked me to make again (I recommend that if there is some soup that you especially like, you stock up on it to freeze and enjoy later:  since my cooking is seasonal, and wonderful options are so many, it may be awhile before this particular soup comes back). That same week I will probably also make a wild mushroom-barley soup and a chicken-noodle soup. This is not a final menu but just my preliminary thoughts. I am not yet sure what breads I will make to go with these soups but I will send out an email with the final menu when I come back from Maine.

I am also thinking about offering some frozen crepes with sweet or savory fillings that you could quickly reheat and have for your brunch or lunch. What that be something that might be of interest?

In short, I need feedback from you, my dear customers. I would love to hear about your favorite foods, flavors, culinary experiences, dietary preferences and restrictions. Since my cooking is all about you, I want you to help me figure out how to make your life tastier.

Oh, and please check out the Seasonal Recipes section on this website. It is still small but I will be adding new recipes as I develop them (and find time to write them down).

Please stay warm and eat well,
Nika aka Breadnik
